4. Click Properties, select Obtain an IP address

automatically and Obtain DNS server address

automatically.

5. Click OK to close the windows, then exit the Control

Panel.

The modem-router will now be able to assign an IP address to

your computer.

An IP address is a unique address assigned by the modem-

router to the computer. Each computer has its own identity,

via its IP address, allowing it to be identified within the

network.

Windows 2000

1. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel. Double-

click Network and Dial-Up Connections.

2. Right-click the appropriate connection and

select Properties.

3. In the General tab, highlight Internet Protocol

(TCP/IP).
